One of the first things people notice about you when they meet you is your smile. Teeth that are straight and white are no longer exclusively for superstars. Almost everyone who wants a whiter smile can now afford teeth whitening thanks to improvements in cosmetic dentistry over the past several years.
About Treatment
Ways for Tooth Whitening
Consult your dentist prior to beginning. There are four techniques to restore the lustre to your smile if you're a candidate: Toothpastes for Stain Removal Through the use of gentle abrasives that clean the teeth, all toothpastes assist in removing surface stains. Search for toothpastes that receive the ADA Seal of Acceptance for removing stains (it will tell you on the package). These toothpastes have extra polishing ingredients that are both efficient at removing stains and safe for your teeth. These ADA-Accepted treatments can only remove surface stains, unlike bleaches, which can affect the colour of teeth. In-Office Bleaching Chairside bleaching is the name of the technique, which often only takes one office visit. Your gums will receive either a rubber barrier or a protective gel from the dentist. The teeth are subsequently treated with bleach. Your Dentist's Home Bleaching Instructions You can get a personalised bleaching tray from your dentist to use at home. The dentist will provide you with instructions on how to use the bleaching solution in the tray and how long to leave it in there. If you feel more at ease whitening gradually at home while remaining under the dentist's supervision, this can be your preferred choice. Bleaching done outside of the workplace might take a few days to a few weeks.
Why Teeth Whitening
Your teeth may gradually lose their lustre over time for a variety of causes, including: food and beverage Red wine, black tea, and coffee are some of the main stains. What features do they share? Chromogens, which bind to the white, outside portion of your tooth, are pigments with a deep hue (enamel). Use of Tobacco Tar and nicotine, two substances included in tobacco, leave behind tenacious stains. Tar is inherently dark. Before it is combined with oxygen, nicotine is colourless. It then transforms into a material that stains surfaces and is yellow. Age Your teeth have a softer layer called dentin underneath the enamel, which is the hard, white exterior covering. Brushing wears off the outer enamel layer over time, allowing more of the yellowish dentin to show through. Trauma Your tooth may change colour if you've been hit in the mouth because it responds to an injury by laying down more dentin, a darker layer underneath the enamel. Medications A side effect of some antihistamines, antipsychotics, and high blood pressure medications is tooth darkening. When teeth are developing in young children who are exposed to medicines like tetracycline and doxycycline, either during pregnancy or as infants, the adult teeth may eventually become discoloured. Additionally, head and neck radiation and chemotherapy might discolour teeth.
Benefits of Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening boosts your self confidence A grin with brilliant, sparkling teeth is difficult to miss, whether you're at work, out on a date, presenting a presentation, or simply walking down the street! Whiter teeth also give the impression that you care about your appearance and take care of yourself. People around will be able to tell this is true! 2. Whiter teeth make you seem better Even if you have the straightest smile and the healthiest teeth, you can still suffer from the effects of regular food and drink just like everyone else. Over time, foods, beverages, coffee, tea, and soda discolour our teeth. Without having to "filter" or otherwise alter your images, you'll be able to tell the change right away after the correct whitening technique. Teeth whitening will assist in removing stains from common foods and beverages. 3. Teeth whitening lessens the appearance of wrinkles. Teeth whitening could be a fantastic choice for you if you're worried about wrinkles! People are more likely to notice your pearly white grin than your wrinkles. This will deflect focus from the visibility of nearby wrinkles, acne scars, and frown lines.
Before After
Precautions after teeth whitening
Weve gone over a lot of donts. While there are many things to avoid, there are also many different foods and beverages that are completely safe to consume after having your teeth whitened. You may want to consider trying a white diet, which includes foods that are white in color or colorless for 10-14 days following your treatment. Below are some foods and beverages that are safe for your teeth after whitening: Foods you can eat: Plain yogurt White rice Uncolored pasta White fish (cod, tilapia, haddock, etc.) Chicken Tofu Oatmeal Cereal without any artificial coloring or dyes Egg whites Potatoes Almonds Cashews Cauliflower Chickpeas Cheese without any artificial coloring or dyes Pears Bananas Vanilla ice cream White chocolate Rice Krispie treats Beverages you can drink: Still or sparkling water (unflavored) Milk Coconut water Coconut wilk White wine Clear alcohol with clear mixers (gin and tonic, vodka and club soda, etc.)
What not to eat after Tooth Whitening
1. AVOID DRINKING COLORED BEVERAGES After your whitening treatment, avoid strongly colored beverages such as all: Red wine Coffee Tea Beer Fruit juices Sodas These drinks tend to stain teeth due to their vibrant or artificial color. If you feel like you cant miss out on your morning coffee or a glass of wine at happy hour, consider drinking through a straw. Straws help keep liquids away from your teeth, so your smile will remain whiter longer. 2. DONT EAT FOODS THAT STAIN Similar to avoiding certain beverages, there are a wide range of foods to steer clear of after whitening your teeth. Foods that are acidic, greasy, and/or colored damage your enamel and contribute to staining. Here are some common foods to avoid after whitening your teeth along with some examples of each: Dark-colored sauces (red sauce, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, etc.) Colorful spices (curry, paprika, turmeric, etc.) Red meat Citrus and other acidic fruits (lemons, oranges, limes, mangoes, kiwis, plums, etc.) Highly pigmented berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, etc.) Colorful vegetables (tomatoes, carrots, spinach, etc.) Milk and dark chocolate Naturally and artificially colored candy A good rule of thumb is if itll stain a shirt, itll also stain your teeth. By avoiding these foods, you can ensure your teeth will remain white for much longer. 3. CUT OUT TOBACCO PRODUCTS In addition to being harmful to your oral health in general, using tobacco products is one of the fastest ways to stain or re-stain your teeth. People who smoke or chew tobacco will likely find that they have to constantly touch up their teeth to maintain a white smile, especially compared to those who dont use tobacco products. Its recommended to quit smoking and/or chewing, not only for health reasons, but to keep your teeth a pearly white color. 4. AVOID COLORED DENTAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS In the days following your teeth whitening treatment, youll want to avoid colored dental products like toothpaste and mouthwash. Blue, red, orange, and purple colors can re-stain your teeth faster than products that are white or light in color. You may also find that your teeth are a bit sensitive after whitening, to alleviate this common symptom, try toothpaste and mouthwash that is specifically made for sensitive teeth. Talk to your dentist about which options are best for you.
